The interview is live. After years of planning, scheduling conflicts, and a trip to Florida that finally made it happen: the Real Talk With Real DJs conversation with DJ Natural Nate® is now available to watch in full. Recorded at Axel V's studio in Florida, this is an unfiltered, honest conversation about 27+ years in the underground electronic music scene.

It was long overdue to finally sit down for an interview with Jaime Arturo, better known to many as Poorno James, for his incredible series Real Talk With Real DJs through The-Lost-Art.com. For years, James and I had talked about making this interview happen. The original plan was for him to travel out to Colorado, or for me to eventually make my way to Florida so we could do it in person. As life tends to do, schedules never seemed to line up. Fortunately, during my recent trip to Florida, everything finally came together, and I'm genuinely grateful that it did because I couldn't have imagined a better setting or better people to share the experience with.

It never felt like an interview, it felt like friends sitting together talking honestly about the culture we've all devoted so much of our lives to.

The Florida trip itself was something I'll never forget. Jenna (Jiggabot) and I had the privilege of playing an extremely private warehouse event hosted by Disco Dave and his wife, Michaela Foley. They welcomed us with open arms and treated us like family from the moment we arrived. It wasn't just another event, it felt like a reunion of people who have dedicated so much of their lives to electronic music and the culture surrounding it. We laughed, shared stories, talked about the old days, made new memories, and had the opportunity to reconnect with friends we hadn't seen in years while meeting many new faces who shared the same passion. It reminded me that while music is what initially brings us together, it's the friendships and relationships that keep us connected long after the music stops.

During that trip, I finally got to spend time with James and the entire crew, and we agreed that there was no better opportunity to finally record the interview we had talked about for so many years. I've always been extremely selective about doing interviews. Over the years I've been invited onto countless podcasts, livestreams, Twitch shows, radio programs, and interviews, but I've declined the overwhelming majority of them. The reason has never been because I didn't appreciate the invitation. The truth is that when I sit down for an interview, I don't know how to give anything except complete honesty. If someone asks me a question, they're going to get the real answer, not the answer people want to hear, not the politically correct answer, and certainly not the answer that's designed to avoid controversy. I've always believed that if you're going to tell your story, then tell the entire story.

Anyone who has followed me throughout the years knows how deeply I care about this craft. My passion has never simply been about playing music. It has always been about turntables, records, learning to mix by ear, respecting the history of DJ culture, and preserving an art form that has shaped my entire life. I've dedicated decades to this culture because I genuinely love it. Along that journey I've experienced incredible highs, unforgettable accomplishments, unbelievable opportunities, crushing disappointments, painful failures, criticism, rejection, and moments where I questioned everything. Those experiences aren't something I try to hide, they're part of my story. In many ways, they've become the greatest teachers I've ever had.

I think one of the biggest misconceptions people have about becoming a DJ is that they only see the finished product. They see the performances, the photos, the videos, the travel, the releases, and the accomplishments, but they rarely see the countless hours spent practicing alone, the gigs that didn't happen, the opportunities that disappeared overnight, the financial sacrifices, the criticism, or the moments when you wonder if continuing is even worth it. This industry can be incredibly unforgiving. It can humble you faster than almost anything else. But it also has an incredible way of rewarding perseverance. Every setback forced me to become stronger. Every rejection motivated me to improve. Every obstacle made me work harder than I thought I was capable of. Looking back now, I honestly wouldn't remove any of those difficult chapters because without them, I wouldn't be the person I am today.

One of the reasons I wanted to be completely transparent during this interview is because I know there are people watching who may be struggling with those same feelings. There are DJs, producers, artists, and creators who probably wonder if they're good enough, if anyone notices their work, or if they should simply quit. I've been there. I know exactly what that feels like. If my experiences can help even one person realize they aren't alone, then opening up about both the victories and the failures was absolutely worth it. Sometimes the most valuable lessons don't come from success, they come from surviving the moments when success feels impossible.

It also meant a great deal to me that this interview took place inside Axel V's studio, surrounded by people I genuinely respect and consider friends. Being surrounded by people with that much talent, experience, and passion made the entire conversation feel natural. It never felt like an interview, it felt like friends sitting together talking honestly about the culture we've all devoted so much of our lives to.

One lesson that has stayed with me throughout my entire career is the importance of surrounding yourself with people who challenge you to become better. I've never wanted to be the most talented person in the room. I've always wanted to be around people who inspire me to improve, who make me think differently, who push me creatively, and who continue raising the bar. Those relationships have helped shape me not only as a DJ, producer, and artist, but as a person. They remind me that growth never stops if you're willing to keep learning.

As I reflect on everything this journey has given me, I realize that the greatest rewards have never been measured in money, fame, or recognition. Those things come and go. What has always mattered most are the friendships, the loyalty, the trust, the memories, and the people who stood beside me through every chapter of this journey. Those are things no amount of success can ever replace. I've truly been blessed with incredible people in my life, and I never take that for granted.

Looking back over everything I've experienced, I honestly wouldn't change a single part of my journey. Every accomplishment, every setback, every lesson, every friendship, and every challenge helped shape the person I am today. DJing hasn't simply been something I've done, it has completely changed my life, and it continues to shape me every single day. I remain just as passionate today as I was when I first touched a pair of turntables all those years ago.

DJ Natural Nate® is a veteran DJ, producer, turntablist, innovator, and underground electronic music pioneer whose influence has spanned decades within the global Breakbeat and Electro community. Known for his relentless dedication to preserving the art of true DJing, Nate has built a reputation on technical skill, authenticity, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to the culture that helped shape modern dance music.
