On April 29, 2010, DJ Natural Nate® set the world record: 86 tracks mixed in one hour at 133 BPM, live on The-Lost-Art™, on two Technics turntables, with no sync button and no BPM counters. Every transition was executed manually. Every beat was matched by ear. The record stands as proof of what is possible with skill, practice, and the right equipment.

Step by Step
HOW MANUAL BEATMATCHING WORKS
Listen to Both Tracks
Use headphones to cue the incoming track while the current track plays through the speakers. Listen carefully to the tempo of both records: feel the pulse of each beat.
Identify the Tempo by Feel
Without BPM counters or visual aids, identify the tempo of the incoming track by feel and ear. This skill is developed over years of practice and thousands of hours behind the decks.
Adjust the Pitch Control
Use the pitch slider on the turntable to speed up or slow down the incoming track until it matches the tempo of the playing track. Small adjustments make a big difference.
Match the Beats by Ear
Nudge the platter or apply light pressure to the record to align the beats of both tracks. Listen for the beats to lock in sync: when they align perfectly, the mix is ready.
Blend the Tracks Seamlessly
Use the crossfader and channel faders to blend the incoming track into the mix at the right moment, creating a seamless transition that the audience feels as one continuous flow of music.
