Nathaniel R. Lemieux was born in Bad Kreuznach, Germany: a military town, to David and Jacque Lemieux. The family relocated to Colorado, where he was raised. From an early age, he demonstrated a natural relationship with sound and rhythm: drums, piano, harmonica, and percussion all made intuitive sense to him. As a young music enthusiast, he watched episodes of the Barbara Mandrell & the Mandrell Sisters television program, becoming fascinated by musicians who created bending, crying, singing tones using unconventional instruments, particularly the musical saw. That image would stay with him for decades and eventually inspire the Bend Scratch.
United States Marine Corps: Honor, Courage, Commitment
Before the decks, before the records, before the legacy, Nathaniel R. Lemieux served his country as a United States Marine. The Corps instilled the principles of honor, courage, commitment, discipline, and leadership that would become the foundation of everything he built. The same accountability forged in the Marine Corps would be reflected in every stage of his career, from pioneering live DJ video broadcasting to building worldwide communities of artists who shared a passion for authenticity and excellence. First Turntables: A Loan from David & Jacque Lemieux
His parents, David and Jacque Lemieux, gave him a loan for his first pair of used Technics turntables and a Gemini Beat Down Mixer. The mixer barely worked. The EQ was unreliable. The faders were inconsistent. There were no effects to hide behind, no technology to smooth over rough edges, no shortcuts built into the hardware. With that mixer, either you could mix, or you could not. The truth was always right there in the sound. That broken mixer became the most honest teacher he ever had. Learning the Craft the Hard Way: No Sync, No Shortcuts
DJ Natural Nate® emerged from an era with no sync buttons, no automatic beatmatching, no visual waveforms, and no software correcting mistakes. Every transition required manual pitch adjustment by ear. Every mix required timing, concentration, and technical control. Influenced by early hip-hop culture, breakdancing, electro music, and underground electronic music, he studied records while others merely listened. At his core he is a mixologist, someone who loves hearing two records blend together to create new sounds and remixes. He invented original scratch techniques not as DMC competition moves, but as showmanship tools: a way to wake the crowd up, give them a signature moment to remember, and add something unexpected to a set built around the art of blending. That philosophy would define his entire career and eventually lead to the invention of entirely new scratch techniques that no one had attempted before.
The Bend Scratch, Taco Scratch & Break Scratch: Invented
Inspired by watching musicians bend a musical saw to create gliding, expressive pitches on the Barbara Mandrell show, DJ Natural Nate® began experimenting with physically manipulating vinyl records during playback. The Bend Scratch emerged from carefully flexing portions of the vinyl while playing, producing pitch fluctuations, harmonic distortion, and vocal-like tonal shifts impossible through ordinary scratching. The Taco Scratch pushed further, physically folding the record into a taco shape to create extreme pitch bends and robotic-sounding distortions. The Break Scratch treated broken or damaged vinyl as an instrument, producing unrepeatable textural sounds at the edge of the record's physical tolerance. A fourth technique, the Lazer Scratch, was developed with Mark Scurrah from Vision Lazer. These techniques were demonstrated live on camera during BYBB broadcasts, audiences could watch the physical manipulation in real time. Bruise Your Body Breaks (BYBB): Founded
After a particularly bass-heavy performance, a man came up to DJ Natural Nate® and showed him a bruise on his back, telling him that the bass had been hitting so hard during his set that the speakers and the bass physically bruised his body. Nate saw the bruise with his own eyes. A slogan was born: "If the dancing doesn't bruise your body, the music will." BYBB became more than a name. It became a philosophy, a label, and a movement. The founding crew included Luke Babcock (CapNColorado), Ian "Ghost" Correll, Daniel Varela (Raptor), and Brandon McKim. Brandon McKim's camcorder recordings during this era helped demonstrate the concept that would eventually become the mandatory video verification standard at The-Lost-Art.com.
BYBB Goes International: Breaks FM Internet Radio
By 2003, Bruise Your Body Breaks had evolved into an internationally recognized internet radio program through Breaks FM and other online broadcasting platforms. The project introduced listeners worldwide to underground breakbeat, electro bass, independent labels, emerging producers, live DJ performance, artist interviews, technical DJ discussions, and worldwide music networking. BYBB was not simply a radio show, it was the laboratory where the future of DJ video broadcasting began. Thousands of broadcasts were performed across this era. Nate has always been meticulous about copyright and producer rights, choosing not to upload mixes featuring other artists' music without proper clearance. The performances happened. They were witnessed. The archive is real.
The Contract That Changed Everything: "Prove The Mix" Is Born
Despite possessing legitimate turntable skills and years of experience, DJ Natural Nate® found himself accused of being a "computer DJ." Those accusations contributed to the loss of a major contract: the client believed he was using a computer to mix. He was not. But audio alone could not prove it. Many people would have become bitter. He became inspired. His response was simple: Show the decks. Show the mixer. Show the DJ. Show the performance. This became the foundation of a philosophy that would later become famous throughout underground DJ culture: PROVE THE MIX. That single moment of injustice became the seed of The-Lost-Art.com.
NuBreaks & Ustream: Testing the Live Video Concept
Between 2007 and 2008, the live video DJ concept was tested on NuBreaks and Ustream, early streaming platforms that lacked the custom infrastructure needed to enforce the "Prove The Mix" standard. These tests confirmed the concept worked and revealed exactly what a dedicated platform would need to do differently: mandatory camera, mandatory equipment visibility, no prerecorded sets, no sync assistance, and a permanent archive of every performance. The-Lost-Art.com Launches: The World's First Mandatory Live Video DJ Platform
In 2009, two years before Twitch DJ streaming (2011) and seven years before Facebook Live (2016), The-Lost-Art.com launched as the world's first custom live video DJ internet radio platform. Co-founded by Nathaniel R. Lemieux (DJ Natural Nate®), Jenna Marie "Jiggabot" Lemieux, and Damian Doyle. Built during the Adobe Flash era with a custom commercial-free player, custom design, and custom rules. The-Lost-Art.com established the world's first mandatory camera standard for DJ performance: every DJ required to show equipment, hands, mixer, and decks on camera. No invisible DJs. Equipment: Technics SL-1200 Turntables, Rane Serato Scratch Live Version 1 (no sync button), Pioneer Mixer, Ortofon Needles, Shure Headphones. He manually mixed 86 different tracks in one hour at 133 BPM, each mix held for 32 beats, no BPM counters, no digital assistance permitted. 117 tracks were prepared as backup. The feat is officially certified by URDB (Universal Record Database, now RecordSetter), Certificate No. 0049, issued December 13, 2010 (record #3106) and was covered by Denver Westword as one of the top world records set by Coloradans. Artists featured included Egyptian Lover, Kyper, Dynamixx Prince, Dominance Electricity, Debonairerecords.com, and dozens more. As he stated: "It wasn't only about speed. It was about control. Every beat, every blend, live, manual, and real."
International Remote Video Headliners: Years Before It Was Normal
In 2010, The-Lost-Art.com hosted international DJs performing live via video, years before remote performance became a mainstream industry concept. DJs from the United States, Europe, and beyond were verified on the platform under the same standard regardless of location or genre. Scratch Innovations
Most DJs spend their careers mastering existing techniques. DJ Natural Nate® created entirely new ones. Inspired by musicians who manipulated pitch through unconventional methods, he began asking: What if vinyl itself became part of the instrument?
The Taco Scratch
Involved physically bending or flexing the record in a way that created a warped, pitch-bending, unstable sound. The record could be shaped or flexed in a manner that resembled a taco-like bend, creating strange tonal movement and pressure-based sound manipulation. This technique required confidence and risk, most DJs were trained to protect vinyl from damage. DJ Natural Nate used the physical weakness and flexibility of vinyl as part of the sound itself.
The Bend Scratch
Focused on bending the vinyl to manipulate pitch, tone, and movement while performing. This technique connected turntablism to the idea of bending an instrument, similar in spirit to how a musical saw or bent metal can create expressive pitch shifts. Instead of treating the record as a fixed playback object, DJ Natural Nate treated it like a physical instrument.
The Break Scratch
Pushed the concept even further, involving broken or damaged record pieces, or manipulating vinyl in a broken-record style, to create aggressive, fragmented, and unpredictable scratch sounds. This technique represented destruction turned into performance. Where most DJs would throw away a broken record, DJ Natural Nate explored whether broken vinyl could still create sound, rhythm, and expression.

Another innovative addition to his expanding catalog of experimental turntable techniques. These methods transformed records from playback devices into expressive instruments. In 2009, DJ Natural Nate® co-founded www.The-Lost-Art.com: the world's first custom, commercial free, mandatory live video DJ internet radio platform, established in 2009 and built specifically around visually proving that DJs were actually mixing live. Its mission was simple: Preserving The Pitch.
The platform was not designed to be another internet radio station. It was designed to become a proving ground. The website required DJs to appear live on camera, show their equipment, show their hands, show their techniques, and prove they were actually mixing.
At the time, virtually every online DJ platform was audio-only. The-Lost-Art.com changed that, years before Twitch, YouTube Live, or Facebook Live made video broadcasting mainstream.

Production Legacy
Beyond DJing, DJ Natural Nate® built an extensive production career alongside his wife and longtime creative partner: Jenna Marie, Jiggabot. Together they created music with emotional weight, underground energy, and electronic depth.
Their production work connected breakbeats, electro, emotional synth work, hard-hitting rhythms, and futuristic sound design. Their catalog spans Electro Breaks, Electro Bass, Breakbeat, Experimental Electronic Music, and Underground Bass Music.
Notable projects include the Notes To Jiggabot EP, the Test of Time Anthology (53 Tracks), numerous Beatport-charting releases, vinyl releases, white-label records, and exclusive DJ pressings.
Beginning in the mid-2010s, DJ Natural Nate® began pressing custom white-label vinyl, show-exclusive records never commercially released. The 2026 series of 10 pressings through Bruise Your Body Breaks and The-Lost-Art.com is the most concentrated vinyl output of his career. For him, vinyl is not nostalgia. It is proof of discipline.
